The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is a program co-sponsored by the College Board and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). It is a standardized test that provides firsthand practice for the SAT. Juniors need a highly selective index score in the 99 percentile range to have a chance at qualifying as a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist. Students who choose to take the PSAT will take it in October of their Junior year.
