    January 23, 2024- Hickman Course Fair from 5:30-7:00 (RBHS= 1/23, BHS= 1/24)

  • Douglass High School Information

    Dear FDHS Students, Staff, Families, and Friends

    We have learned that a traditional setting, although appropriate for many students, does not meet the needs of all students. It has been our mission to create a variety of effective learning environments in an effort to meet the needs of those students that function more effectively in a non-traditional setting.

    As we begin each school year, we do so with an internal pride and confidence that comes as a result of knowing that our staff have helped thousands of students over the years to remain in school and become effective citizens. There is a good possibility that those students who have been involved with our program, rather than dropping out of school, just may have a better chance of being successful in life as a result of our efforts.

    The dedicated FDHS teachers, support staff, parents, Partners in Education and supportive district administration are the main contributing forces behind the FDHS success stories. Thanks to all those dedicated individuals for all of their efforts in providing this unique educational opportunity for Columbia students, and we look forward to each successful school year.

    Facts for Potential Students
    -     Class size cap: 16

    - We have all the core classes and requirements that students need for graduation, but due to our small size, we are not able to offer as many elective choices as the other buildings. Students here need to be flexible about class choices since the options are limited. They can travel to another building if there is something they really want to take, like band, choir, or a Career Center course. We do not have study halls, office aid, AUT, etc. The majority of students here take a full schedule of classes. Our teachers work hard to provide students with hand-on learning opportunities and extra support if needed. 

    - Our schedule runs on a semester block, so students take 4 regular classes at a time, plus a mini-block elective, and they earn 9 credits a year on this schedule, which helps them earn credits more quickly. 

    - How does busing work? Students ride the bus to their home building then take a transfer bus to DHS.
